Convert JPG images to PNG for lossless editing

Converting JPG to PNG creates a broadly supported lossless file for subsequent editing, annotation, or workflows that require PNG. The conversion does not restore detail already lost during the original JPEG compression.

When this tool helps

  • Prepare a JPEG screenshot for repeated edits and exports.
  • Meet a platform requirement that accepts PNG but not JPG.
  • Create a stable intermediate file before adding graphics or text.

How to get a reliable result

  1. Upload the original JPG rather than a repeatedly re-saved copy.
  2. Convert and inspect dimensions, orientation, and color appearance.
  3. Download the PNG and compare its file size with the source.

Practical example

A photographic JPG often becomes a much larger PNG because PNG preserves pixel values without JPEG-style lossy compression.

Important note

The new PNG will not gain true transparency automatically. Background removal is a separate operation, and missing JPEG detail cannot be reconstructed by changing formats.
